I'll Bet part 7 by ~DraginFyr:iconDraginFyr:

Drew leaned against the side of the building. He heard every word of their conversation. He really wanted to hit Rodney for what he said. ‘I should have lost?’ Anger burned inside of him. He worked hard for that! And how could Rodney call him a jerk? The only time he’d seen him in the face was when he battled him. But then he heard May stick up for him. He couldn’t help but feel ten feet tall. May really cared about him. Whether or not if it’s the care he wanted didn’t really matter at the moment. As they walked away, Drew’s thoughts went back to the bet. He’d have to hurry if he wanted to keep Harley’s mouth shut. And he had no idea how long May was staying now that the contest was over. And if she was leaving now… Harley would probably catch up to her and her traveling group… and if he told her… Drew shuddered at the thought. He’d have to make sure she was staying later than just a day; otherwise he’d have to get a gut… and soon…
After the dinner, Rodney and the group were talking. “Why don’t you stay for a little while longer? I hear they have the best food and places to shop here.” Rodney said.
“Really?” May asked, excited.
“They also have battle grounds where pokemon trainers can fight with other trainers.” Max said, looking at the navigator they had.
“I vote we stay!” Ash yelled.
“We also should stock up on supplies.” Brock said. When Brock saw their eager faces, he said, “Alright, sounds good to me. Let’s stay for a while.” Everyone cheered. “Let’s get lots of rest for tomorrow.” He said, and everyone walked back to the pokemon center.  It was starting to get a little dark.
“Hey, guys, I’ll catch up with you later. I promise I won’t take long.” May said. She walked away back to the Cherry tree she was under two days ago. She sat down in the cool grass and looked up at the stars. The stars were beautiful, blinking every once in a while. She sighed, thinking about the contest. ‘Well, there’s always next contest.’ May thought. The tree reminded her of what happened last time she was here with Skitty… and Drew… Now that she was alone, she let her feelings pour into her thoughts. Drew did encourage her a lot, but then he usually just shot her down again. He seemed to be an okay guy, but he would just prove her wrong with one of his insults. And he gave her roses all the time… Drew was a mystery to her. He didn’t act like a jerk to everyone. Just her. Why was that? Her thoughts eventually landed on Rodney and what he said to her when he gave her the necklace she was wearing now. ‘He thinks I’m beautiful.’ May thought. It was sweet of him, but she just didn’t know him long enough to feel that way about him. Especially with Drew on her mind…
She heard footsteps, so she turned around. Green hair, green eyes, guess who? May smiled a little, and turned back to the stars before he sat under the tree with her. He gazed up at the sky, too, eyes glued to the stars. May glanced at him once, and it just so happens that Drew was looking at her, too. May looked away, blushing, while Drew smiled and broke the indefinite silence. “You’re out here all alone again?” Drew asked.
“You’re here, aren’t you?” May said. Drew smiled.
“Where are the rest of your friends?” He asked.
“They already went back to the pokemon center.”
“Why didn’t you go with them?”
“Can’t a girl get some privacy?”
“You want me to leave?”
“It’s not that, Drew. I just have a lot on my mind.” May said. That ended the conversation, so Drew decided to start a new topic.
“You did great at the contest.” He said, not looking at her. May looked at him, surprised that he didn’t say anything about how he was better, or how he won.
“Me? You won.” She said, looking back at the stars.
“Just because I did great doesn’t mean you didn’t. I just did better than you.” He said. May knew it, as always. It wouldn’t last forever. She glared at him.
“It’s a better improvement than you.” She challenged.
“Someone like me doesn’t need improvement.” He said, flipping his hair.
“That’s one man’s opinion.” May said.
“All right, what should I do to improve myself?” Drew said sarcastically.
“Gee, I don’t know. Maybe your attitude?” May said, smirking. Drew looked at her and cocked an eyebrow.
“What’s wrong with my attitude?” Drew asked playfully.
“Everything.” May teased.
“Well, then, what kind of attitude do you like?” He said. May was taken aback a little. If he asked her what kind of attitude she liked, did that mean he wanted to be like what she wanted? “One that’s as clueless as you?” Drew added.
“At least someone who doesn’t insult me every two minutes when I’m around.” She said. Drew smiled.
“Well, then, I guess I can have a different attitude, just for tonight.” He said. May looked surprised, but blushed scarlet when she felt his arm curl around her and pull her closer to him. She leaned against his shoulder and stared at the sky. Her stomach had beautiflies, but she liked the feeling…

Way off in the distance, Max had come back for May, but found his sister with Drew. ‘What the…’ Max said to himself. ‘Does she like him??’ Max looked astounded by his new discovery. ‘No. It couldn’t be. She can’t like HIM. Did he brain wash her or something?’ Max thought for a moment. What would he do? ‘All right, Drew. If you want to get to my sister, you’re going to have to prove to me that you’re not some stupid jerk like you’ve shown so far.’  As Max walked back, he flipped open his poke’nav and looking at all the events tomorrow, thinking about all the tricks he could play on Drew.
The next day, everyone woke up and separated from each other. Ash went to the battlegrounds, Brock went to buy supplies, and May went shopping. Max decided to tag along with May, so he could put his devious plan into action when he found Drew.  “I thought you wanted to go with Ash to the battlegrounds.” May said to Max as they passed by the stores. Max just shrugged. He didn’t want her to know about his reason, at least not yet. May stared at him for a second, but decided to let it slide. She went into almost every store, dragging Max along with her. After an hour, Max wanted to run out of the stores and into the battlegrounds to watch Ash. Every jewelry store, bakery, and whatever else they had there was starting to drive Max crazy. ‘MAN! I CAN’T TAKE MUCH MORE OF THIS!!!!’ Max screamed in his mind, rubbing his head fiercely while waiting for May to exit the clothes shop. Just then, he caught sight of someone with green hair, and realized it was Drew.

Drew saw May’s little brother near a clothes store. Max looked very bored, so Drew went up near the store and walked up to him. “Hey, you’re Max, right?” Drew said, leaning on the building.
“That’s me.” Max said, glad that Drew didn’t say ‘May’s little brother’.
“What are you doing waiting outside a clothes shop?” Drew said.
“I should ask you that question.” Max said suspiciously.
“I saw you in here, so I just thought I’d say hi.” Drew smiled at him, without any trace of arrogance. Max was a little surprised by this, but he still wanted his plan to take place.
“Why would I need to say hi to a sorry imitation of a tree?” Max said, smirking.
“A tree? Well, compared to your size, I guess I am.” Drew said. But it was in a friendly mocking way, Max noted. ‘Why is he so nice to me and not to May.’ Max thought. ‘I guess he is okay… SOMETIMES.’ Max said to himself. Just then, May came out of the store with a bag on her arm. She seemed surprised to see Drew.
“Hey, Drew. What are you doing here?” May asked. She decided not to say anything about last night, and thankfully, he decided not to mention it either.
Drew shrugged and said, “Max was looking a little bored. And I can’t blame him if he was with you.” The arrogance was back full force, and Max was confused by it. Two seconds ago he was being nice. Now he’s being a total jerk. ‘Well, it’s time for test number 2.’ Max thought. He saw May’s fists tightened as she insulted him back.
“Hey, May, can we go to the carnival? There’s one over by the river.” Max asked, looking up at her innocently.
“Uh…Sure.” May said, looking down at him. Max looked over at Drew, who looked suspicious of Max’s sudden change of topic.
“You want to come?” Max asked Drew. May’s eyes widened when Max asked Drew to come along, and she looked down at him. She thought Max didn’t like him.
“I’m not doing anything else.” Drew said. Max led the way as they made their way to the carnival. Just then, Rodney came up from the crowd and noticed May.
“Hi, May!” Rodney said enthusiastically. He looked at Drew and frowned a little.
“Drew.” He said.
“Rodney.” Drew said with the same tone of voice.
“Do you want to come to the carnival with us?” Max asked.
“Sure, why not?” Rodney said, putting on a smile. Drew looked disgusted, but hid it by turning around. Drew was still mad and jealous at that Rodney guy. The four of them headed to the carnival, and they were instantly amazed by everything. There were rides, games, food stands, and a lot of people laughing and talking. Everyone was having a pretty good time, even Drew and Rodney. That is, until they came to the game section of the carnival. May went to use the restroom, so the three remaining were playing Whack-a-Diglett, when Drew and Rodney started… conversing.
“Did May invite you to come with us? I don’t think so. In fact, the only reason you’re here with May and me is because of her stinking little brother.” Rodney said from out of the blue. He said it quietly so no one else would hear.
“Max invited me, and he invited you, too. So if he wasn’t there, she wouldn’t have invited you, either.” Drew said, pretending that he was whacking Rodney’s face. Rodney was fuming, but came up with an idea.
“You don’t have a chance with May. Why don’t you just give up?” Rodney said.
“And you do?” Drew said through clenched teeth.
“Better than you. I’m better than you at everything. You won that contest out of pure luck.” Rodney said smugly. The two boys were getting louder by the second. That was it. Drew was about to punch Rodney right in the face when he heard someone next to him.
“You both like May?” Max asked. Both of them turned to the black-haired little boy next to Drew. Drew blushed and looked away while Rodney scowled at Max. The little boy smiled. ‘Change of plans.’ Max thought.
“So what?” Rodney asked.
“Well…” Max said, putting a finger to his chin. Rodney snarled at Max.
“Hurry up you little brat.” Rodney said, slamming the hammer down on a Diglett.
“Don’t call me a brat! I just so happen to know what May’s guy would be like…” Max started, looking at the two boys to see their reaction.
“What do I have to do?” Rodney said eagerly. Drew just stayed quiet.
“She loves people who don’t call me a brat.” Max said daringly at Rodney. Rodney pulled a fake smile, but slammed down hard on the next Diglett again.
“And she likes people who buy a lot of stuff for her and me.” Max finished. Drew wasn’t going to fall for that. But Rodney said, “Roger!” And flew off to new games to try and win everything.
“We’ll meet you back at the pokemon center!” Max called after Rodney’s back.
Max smiled proudly as he saw Rodney run off. Drew threw Max a questioning glance as the younger boy burst out in laughter. “That Rodney guy really is gullible!” Max said, running off. Drew followed Max, and they saw May over near the Ferris wheel. It was already dark, and the first star glittered way off in the distance. When May spotted them, she asked where Rodney was.
“He’s still playing games. I think he likes to win a lot.” Max said, smiling at Drew. Max looked up at the Ferris wheel, it’s lights now on and blinking, creating different colors and patterns. The sky was filled with stars. “Can we go on?” Max asked excitedly.
“I don’t see why not.” May said, looking up in awe. She looked at Drew, who nodded, signaling that he wanted to ride it, also. Since there wasn’t anyone else in line, they were able to get on. Max said he wanted his own seat, so May sat with Drew. After they were pulled around, guess what? They were stopped at the very top, with Max in front of them. It was a very tall Ferris wheel, reaching about ten stories. May was thrilled by the view. But then she blushed when she realized who she was sitting next to. Her heart started to beat faster. She didn’t know that Drew’s was, also. ‘This is the perfect time to tell her.’ His mind said to him. He moved his hand from on top of his stomach to the right of his seat, and landed softly on top of May’s. May blushed scarlet, but didn’t pull her hand away. After a while, Drew got the nerve to intertwine their fingers, and he blushed a little, too. Her mind was working just as fast as her heart. ‘I really do like him… as more than a friend… but does he?’ May thought. ‘All right, Drew. You know what to do. It’s now or never…’ Drew’s mind said.
