I'll Bet part 9 by ~DraginFyr:iconDraginFyr:

“May…” May froze. What was he doing here? And how could he just start talking to her after everything he did.
“What do you want, Drew?” May asked coldly. Inside her mind she was wondering if she should just run for it or let him say what he wanted to. She didn’t know which one to go with, so she just stood there with her back facing him. Drew knew what he did to her, right? If he didn’t, it would only make May feel worse. It meant that… he hadn’t even considered about being close at all. May shook the thought from her mind, just as Drew was about to talk.
Drew didn’t want May to remember what Harley had said, so he started off with the most important matter on Drew’s mind. “May, please don’t go meet Rodney at the river.” May was surprised at his choice of words. He was trying to forget what happened. Had he forgotten what had happened last night?
“Why not?” May said dully. Drew knew she’d eventually ask that question.
“May, Rodney works for Team Rocket.” Drew said. May’s eyes widened as she spun around to look at Drew.
“What? How do you know?” May was utterly surprised.
“I overheard him talking to his boss by the river… when I went looking for you.” Drew said quietly. May’s mouth dropped a little. He went to look for her? “May, you can’t go. He’s using you for his own purposes.” What Drew said acted like a switch to May’s emotion. She went from astonishment to pure anger.
“And you didn’t?” May asked angrily, tears threatening to fall again. Drew was taken aback by what May said. He tried to get closer to her, but she took a step back. “You really shouldn’t be talking, Drew.” May snarled as she turned tail and started walking in the direction of the river. Drew was struck dumb. What? Drew had to tell May about what had really happened and what the bet was really about. He caught up with her, but she just kept staring at the ground and continuing on her way, even though she knew that he was there. Drew had to tell her. He caught her arm, and May was slightly surprised at this.
“May, you have to trust me. Harley was…”

SLAP

Drew’s cheek was bright red, and it was aching badly. May was fuming mad, and Drew stayed quiet, not wanting to hurt her (or himself, for that matter) anymore.
“Trust you? After what you did to me?” May cried, bringing her hand down. She was now crying, but she still tried to hold her tears back. “I hate you! She ran off, and Drew was stunned for a minute.
After everything sunk in, he darted after her. Nothing that she could’ve done to him physically hurt more than what happened on the inside. Drew had tried to protect her, and she ended up getting more hurt than if he just left her alone to go with Rodney. Most of all, she had revolted the care he was trying to give to her, and she not only threw his warnings back in his face, she also sent her hand flying with it. He had to get to May before she went with Rodney. No matter how much she hated him… He’d always love her. That’s the reason why he was so persistent. At least she would be safe, and that’s all that mattered.
May had just walked up to the shore of the river when she saw Rodney running up to her. He waved to her cheerfully, and she waved back, only without too much enthusiasm. Rodney pretended to ignore her sadness and came up to her. “Ready to go?” Rodney asked May. She nodded, and both of them got on his boat, and sped away. Drew had just gotten up to the shore, seeing the boat drive away. May saw him, barely a speck on the shore, but she glared at him and turned around.
Drew couldn’t see any boat, which meant Rodney and May had already left. What was he going to do? Flygon probably wouldn’t be able to keep up with the boat, but Drew thought that his pokemon had enough stamina to fly wherever they were going and fight if need be. “Flygon, let’s go!” Drew yelled as his dragon type pokemon flew out of its ball. He let Drew climb on before he flew off of the shore. They kept flying in the air for a while, but Drew couldn’t see the boat anywhere. He was starting to worry if maybe he flew off in the wrong direction, but just up ahead, he saw a big cluster of mountains.
As Drew was circling the mountains, he noticed that there were small squares vaguely shining between two mountains. Drew ordered Flygon to check it out, and he obeyed, landing safely near the shining squares. They were actually windows. Just three to be exact, but they were pretty big. About eight feet on each side, and it was partially transparent. He noticed that it looked like some kind of secret base. Drew figured this was where Rodney had taken May, but he couldn’t be sure. That is, until he saw two people walk by wearing a giant “R” on their jackets. They were holding heavy military rifles, and they had helmets with dark shades over their eyes. Drew knew this was the secret armed base. But how would he get in?

“Poor May ought to have stayed home, eh?” Rodney said in a little kid voice. Silence filled the big empty room, probably loaded with traps. Rodney angered May now that she knew the truth. He really was from Team Rocket. She was tied with ropes against a wall that held her by her hands, legs, and stomach. And what was worse was that Drew had tried to warn her about everything. May knew she was a little hard on him. But he broke her heart… May was confused at the moment. It seemed like everyone she cared for turned and left her in the dark. She felt alone and scared, and that she couldn’t trust anyone anymore. Rodney had taken all of her pokemon, so she couldn’t break out of her binds, let alone survive all of the probable traps. Also, there was a metal collar on May’s neck, which Rodney explained was a bomb that he could activate. And after he activates it, if the bomb wasn’t off after four hours… May shuddered at the thought. She was literally at the mercy of Rodney, and she didn’t like that fact at all…
Rodney had explained to her why he was after her. He needed a partner just to get a better rank in the organization? Why didn’t she see through his deception? Right now, all she wanted was to be out of this mess and back in bed.
“Why did you pick me?” May asked quietly, holding back small tears.
“You’re one of the best pokemon coordinators I’ve seen that I could overpower so easily.” Rodney said, smirking. “Plus, you’re hot.” May looked away, utterly disgusted by him. Rodney just laughed and walked out of the room, shutting the door behind him.

It was just Drew’s luck that at that precise moment one Team Rocket member came out to check for intruders. Drew quickly ran inside while the man had his back towards the window. Once he was inside, he made a quick dash for the nearest hiding spot, which was behind a huge military tank. When he heard that the guy on top of the roof had come down and walked off, Drew sighed and moved on. He had to find May fast, before Rodney could use her for whatever purpose he had in store. Problem was, he had no idea where she was. As far as he knew, this place could have two thousand different passageways. Now Drew was in a bind. He hid behind a corner and thought for a moment. ‘Well, there has to be a control room somewhere to keep everything in check. If I can just find that control room…’ His thoughts were interrupted with a gun jabbing into his back, which made Drew stiffen. “Who are you, and what’s your business here?” The Team Rocket Member said in a tough voice. When Drew remained quiet, the man that found Drew dragged him into a very large room with dimly lit lights. Drew was dropped unceremoniously as he collided with the ground.
“Well, well, well. I wonder what you’re looking for Drew. I didn’t expect you to find this place, I’ll give you that much.” Rodney said as he saw Drew get off the ground, hatred in his eyes. “Hey, what’s the look for? I didn’t do anything to you.” Rodney said as he started walking towards Drew. Drew took a step back, but the anger never subsided.
“May’s more important to me than I am!” Drew snarled, while Rodney still kept getting closer. About five feet away from Drew, Rodney stopped and smirked.
“I think I know how important May is to you, thank you very much.” Rodney said. Drew was slightly taken aback, but he didn’t let it show. “I think about May like that as well.” The brown haired boy continued, with an evil glint in his eyes.
“Don’t ever compare me with you. I’d never use May for anything.” Drew said.
“Like you did with your little bet with Harley?” Rodney said, smirking. Drew stopped for a second. How did Rodney know about that? “In case you were wondering, Harley tipped me off when he saw me getting along with May so well.” He said smugly. ‘So Rodney was in on it, too?’ Drew’s fists tightened and his teeth clenched. It was all a setup to get May to hate Drew, and to get May for his own stupid reason. “But you want to play hero, don’t you?” Rodney asked playfully. Drew stared angrily at Rodney but stayed quiet. Rodney liked the idea of Drew getting blown up or flattened by one of the many traps within the building. “Well then, I’ll give you a chance.” Rodney said after Drew’s silence. “You get four hours to find May and get out of this secret base without getting killed in my base of traps.” Rodney grinned evilly when Drew’s face paled a little. “Go ahead, use your pokemon. It’s not like they’ll help much.” Just then, two soldiers snapped something around Drew’s neck. It was light and was made of metal. It looked like a small collar.
“That is a bomb.” Rodney said, as though he was making a comment about the weather. “It will blow up in exactly four hours as soon as I press this button. That is, if you can’t find a key that shuts it off and releases you.” Rodney held up a remote control, indicating the red button in the middle. “Your little girlfriend’s got one too, so don’t feel left out. Hers is ticking at the exact same time as yours when I turn it on. But there’s only one key, and you can only use it once, so you’ll have to decide whom you want to save more. Good luck.” Rodney said sarcastically. Drew’s anger was beginning to boil, but just then, the guard jabbed him in the stomach and led him out of the room.
After the guard left, Drew heard something. The ticking of the bomb made the hair on his neck stand up. ‘Four hours.’ Drew thought as he went looking for the control room he was after before this whole mess. Problem was, he also had to look for the key. He already knew whom he was going to save after he found the key. After an hour of wandering around, Drew was starting to get worried. How was he going to find May? He was just about to round a corner…
He bumped into someone, who said, “Watch it, buster!” Drew looked up to see an old red haired lady he recognized as one of the trio that kept following May and her friends around.
“Hey, isn’t that the twerp’s friend?” James asked, looking over Jesse’s shoulder.
“Hey, it is!” Meowth said, walking underneath Jesse and in front of the three.
“What are you doing here, twerp?” James asked Drew directly.
“What’s it to you?” Drew asked suspiciously. So they’re not in on it?
“Are you looking for the blue-eyed twerp?” Jesse asked. Drew’s eyes widened. So they do know about it. Drew swallowed and nodded, wondering what they knew… or if they would tell him.
“She’s down along this aisle. Go straight until you hit a wall. Then go right, and then take a left at the very next opening. She’s in there.” James said. Drew looked surprised, but he was a little suspicious.
“Don’t worry, twerp. We’re after revenge on Rodney. We’re just trying to kill his plans.” Meowth said, almost reading Drew’s mind.
“He took our jobs. I’m not going to let it go without a fight.” Jesse said, with James and Meowth nodding. Drew really didn’t want to trust them, but it was all he had for a clue.
“Do you three know where any keys are?” Drew asked. They looked at him and thought for a moment.
“Instead of taking a right at a wall, go left. There’s one key there. That’s the only one we know.” James said for his team. ‘That’s the key.’ Drew thought to himself. He nodded his head in thanks and they went on their merry little way, pretending like nothing happened. Drew followed Team Rocket’s instructions carefully, still unsure of their directions. He hit a wall, so he decided to go left and get the key first.
